Mahabad; Shelir Mam-Qaderi Released on 15 Billion Toman Bail After 3 Months; Cancer Patient and Single Mother Who Suffered Severe Torture
July 8, 2026; “Shelir Mam-Qaderi,” a 34-year-old Kurdish woman from Mahabad, who is a single mother battling cancer and was subjected to severe physical and psychological torture during her detention, has been temporarily released from Urmia Central Prison after posting a heavy bail of 15 billion Tomans.
An informed source confirmed the details to Kurdpa, stating: On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Shelir Mam-Qaderi was temporarily released pending trial after 91 days of arbitrary detention, during which she endured intense physical and mental abuse during the interrogation process.
Kurdpa previously reported on May 19, 2026—marking her 42nd day of arbitrary detention—that she had been severely tortured, resulting in bone fractures and internal bleeding. The injuries were so extensive that security forces were compelled to transfer her to a hospital under tight security for surgical intervention.
Furthermore, on April 30, 2026, Kurdpa reported that she was systematically denied access to a lawyer and a family visitation while being held at the Urmia facility. Given her diagnosis of breast cancer, grave concerns were raised regarding her well-being, particularly as she was subjected to torture while actively battling the illness.
Shelir Mam-Qaderi, who has been arrested twice since February 2026, suffers from breast cancer and is the sole provider for her two daughters, including a young child. Throughout both detentions, she was denied access to her essential medications, legal counsel, and family meetings, leaving her children without a guardian.
Summary of Past Arrests and Harassment
- First Arrest (February 1, 2026): Dozens of armed security operatives raided her residence at midnight, breaking down the door, using profanities, and arresting her without allowing her to dress properly. She was held at a Mahabad Intelligence Department facility and released on February 5, 2026, on a 2.5 billion Toman bail. During this initial detention, her leg was broken under torture, requiring surgery immediately after her release.
- Second Arrest (April 8, 2026): Security forces raided her home once again without a judicial warrant, taking her to a security detention center in Urmia, where she spent 91 days until her recent release.
Shelir Mam-Qaderi has been undergoing chemotherapy for over a year and requires continuous medical treatment. Despite this, authorities repeatedly barred her from bringing her medications into detention. She sustained her family by working as a domestic cleaner. Her repeated absences have caused severe emotional and financial distress for her children.
