Saqqez and imposed nightly events; From street blockades and closing shops with municipality arrangements for government supporters, to forcing students and financial incentives for higher attendance

23:44 - 15 May 2026

May 15, 2026; reports received by Kurdpa indicate the holding of nightly government events with full preparation by the municipality, extensive blockading of the city's main routes, and preventing the normal operation of businesses, aimed at the organized presence of government supporters. According to these reports, during these programs, in addition to creating restrictions on the movement of citizens and the forced closure of shops, instances of financial incentives to certain individuals as well as reports of pressure on students to participate in these events have been raised.

This report has been prepared based on the accounts of several eyewitnesses, as well as videos and images received by Kurdpa and within the framework of received field data.

An eyewitness says:

"Every night, events for government supporters are held in the cities, creating an atmosphere that attempts to insinuate that 'authority and unity exist, and as if they have won a war.' In the city of Saqqez, every night from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM, supporters and individuals affiliated with the government gather at 'Halu Square' (this square is recognized by the government as Jomhouri Boulevard, but it is known among the people as 'Halu Square'). Furthermore, the streets leading to 'Halu Square' are blocked, and citizens' vehicles are not allowed to commute; including the routes of 'Garage,' 'Qods Square,' and the 'Jameh Three-way Intersection,' all of which lead to Halu Square."

These images show that the route from "Qods Square" to "Halu Square" has been blocked by two private vehicles and one law enforcement vehicle.

These images show that the route from the "Jameh Three-way Intersection" to "Halu Square" has been blocked by two private vehicles and one law enforcement vehicle.

This video shows "Halu Square" moments after 11:00 PM, meaning after the end of the government event. At this time, government supporters are returning to their homes, and the executive agents of the event, which includes a municipality vehicle, are collecting the equipment and items of the event. It is worth noting that after the end of the events, people find the opportunity to reopen their shops. In this video, it is also observed that most shops are closed.

This photo relates to one of the nights in Saqqez where government supporters, after the end of the event, patrol the streets by vehicle and, while holding the flag of the Islamic Republic, move toward the army barracks houses at the beginning of the Baneh road.

On the other hand, according to information received by Kurdpa, students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades have been told that in order to obtain course grades, attendance at these events is mandatory.

An image of one of the student groups related to Tuesday, May 12, 2026, which has reached Kurdpa, and its text is as follows: "My dear girls, the grade criteria for the Defense Readiness course, meaning the 8 points that are in our hands: the criteria will be several points for presence in the nightly gatherings, two points for research and study, and the rest will be the exam grade, and God willing, keep this in mind."

Furthermore, reports from some witnesses indicate the payment of money to certain individuals; for instance, it is said that individuals who own vehicles receive an amount of around "one million Tomans" if they attend nightly and patrol with the flag of the Islamic Republic in street events.

From another perspective, received reports indicate that the government is continuously reopening and setting up new checkpoints in various and sometimes unexpected locations, and at these checkpoints, it proceeds to search citizens, vehicles, and mobile phones. A portion of the deployed forces operate by covering their faces and using private vehicles with distorted license plates, and it is said that many of them are under 20 years of age. Also, in some cases, semi-heavy weapons have been mounted on vehicles and are used to create an atmosphere of intimidation across the cities. These forces are deployed in a coordinated and networked manner in various locations so that in the event of any tension, they have the possibility of quick mutual support.
