Chia Green Association: Rebin Gorani falls into a coma following Marivan forest fires

On August 28, 2025, a young man from Marivan named Rebin Gorani, a resident of the village of Sawa, suffered severe respiratory damage due to exposure to smoke from the forest fire in Henjiran, Marivan, last week. He is currently in a coma in the intensive care unit of Towhid Hospital in Sanandaj.
According to the Chia Green Association, Rebin Gorani had rushed to the site of the fire late at night, driven by his passion for protecting the nature and forests of his homeland. However, within the first hours, he began experiencing dizziness and serious breathing difficulties. After returning to his village and visiting Marivan Hospital, he was not admitted despite his worsening condition during the first two days. On the third day, after repeated vomiting and further deterioration, he was finally hospitalized and placed under treatment.
However, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, his condition became critical, his vital signs became unstable, and he eventually fell into a coma. He was subsequently transferred to Towhid Hospital in Sanandaj, where he remains in intensive care according to the latest reports.
The Chia Green Environmental Association, after learning of the incident and visiting Gorani's family in the hospital, has been closely following his treatment process. In a statement, the association expressed its gratitude to environmental activists and called on the public not to go to fire zones without coordination with the association. In case of any emergency, they urged people to immediately notify the association, so that support and assistance can be provided in the treatment and follow-up process.
This incident once again highlights the serious dangers posed by widespread forest fires in Kurdistan, and their devastating impact on environmental defenders and local residents.
The Chia Green Association also published a timelapse video showing the extensive forest fires, suspected to be deliberately set, in the villages of Hanashikhan, Banavecheleh, and Daravaran—all in Marivan County—between August 10, 17, and 20, 2025, through to August 25, 2025.
