A Kurdish political prisoner sentenced to death is being harassed

Kurdistan Press Agency (Kurdpa): A Kurdish political prisoner sentenced to death is being harassed by persistent offenders in Urmia prison. It is said the attackers has been ordered by the prison guards to do so.

According to reports received by our agency, Arsalan Khodkam, a Kurdish political prisoners whom was sentenced to death on charge of “taking action against national security spying for a Kurdish political opposition group” by the 32nd branch of Urmia Military Court almost a month ago, is being harassed by persistent offenders.

Arsalan Khodkam has confirmed the news in his latest in-person visit with his family, a source close to him said.

Arsalan Khodkam was arrested by the Intelligence Service of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the city of Shno (Oshnavieh) in March this year. After being under interrogation in custody for three months, he was transferred to Urmia Central Prison in which he has been jailed in the 3rd-4th section.

After attending in six sessions of his trial in Urmia Revolutionary Court, his case was referred to the 32nd branch of Urmia Military Court in which he was sentenced to death on charge of “taking action against national security spying for a Kurdish political opposition group”.

Arsalan Khodkam, 47, from Mahabad, was a member of a Kurdish opposition political party for only one year 22 years ago. Had he left the party, he became a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) for more than 16 years.

During his trial, Arsalan has not had any access to lawyer. The prosecution alleged that Arsalan had sent secret military and security document belonging to the IRGC to a Kurdish opposition group.
