January 20, 2026; “Melika Dastyab,” a 16-year-old Kurdish teenager from Kerend-e Gharb, a suburb of Dalahu in Kermanshah province, is the identity of another of the victims of the popular protests on January 8 in Kermanshah who was killed by live ammunition from the repressive forces of the Islamic Republic.
An informed source, while confirming this news to “Kurdpa,” stated: “Melika Dastyab,” a 16-year-old Kurdish teenager from Kerend-e Gharb, a suburb of Dalahu in Kermanshah province, was targeted by direct fire of live ammunition from the repressive forces of the Islamic Republic on the evening of Thursday, January 8, 2026, during the popular protests in Kermanshah, in the “Mahalleh-ye Shahrak-e Moallem” of this city, and lost her life.
Furthermore, a video has been published of the burial ceremony of “Melika Dastyab,” in which the collective mourning ritual of “Chamari” was held for her with the sound of the dhol and sorna, accompanied by collective wailing and lamentation. According to an informed source to Kurdpa, this video pertains to January 10, 2026, when her body was buried in Kerend-e Gharb.
“Chamari” is a traditional mourning ritual of the people of Kermanshah held to honor a deceased individual. This ceremony is accompanied by the sound of the dhol and sorna, eulogy chanting, and the collective presence of the people, and in addition to mourning, it is considered a symbol of collective solidarity and empathy.
