On February 1, 2024, the death sentence of a prisoner named "Mehdi Azarion" from Urmia was executed in the central prison of this city.

This prisoner had been transferred to solitary confinement in Urmia prison on January 31, 2024, for the execution of the death sentence.

According to an informed source, this prisoner had been arrested and later sentenced to death by the judiciary for "premeditated murder".
