On the morning of Monday, January 29, 2024, the death sentences of four Kurdish political prisoners named Mohsen Mazloum, Pejman Fatehi, Vafa Azarbar, and Mohammad Faramarzi were carried out in Qezelhesar prison in Karaj.

The Kurdish human rights organization Kurdpa strongly condemned the execution of these four Kurdish political prisoners and emphasized that the most unfair judicial process based on international laws and even the laws of the Islamic Republic has been applied to these prisoners. They have been subjected to complete enforced disappearance for more than 19 months and have not yet passed 24 hours since their first and last meeting with their families when they were executed.

Kurdpa admits that as long as the international community does not take decisive action against human rights violations and executions by the Islamic Republic, repression and executions will continue and the Islamic Republic will use it to mock the West and intimidate Iranian society.

Now that Neda Al-Nashif, Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations, is on the verge of traveling to Iran, the Islamic Republic's welcome with the political group execution of this international human rights official and mocking her must be met with strong protest and cancellation of travel to Iran by Ms. Al-Nashif.

The execution of these four political prisoners in 19 months of complete enforced disappearance, without being able to say what happened to them in this period in the first and last hours before the execution and meeting with their families, as well as without any fair trial; The execution is considered extrajudicial and illegal and Ms. Al-Nashif should instead of traveling to such a repressive structure, hold these government killings accountable in the most severe way possible and refrain from traveling to Iran in protest of this system and judiciary.

Kurdpa emphasizes that the repression and executions by the Islamic Republic must be accompanied by a practical and decisive reaction from the international community, canceling the trip of the Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations is the first and smallest action of the High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations to the executions and holding the Islamic Republic accountable.
