Bukan: Detention of Zakaria Basar After His Father Was Taken Hostage; Father and Son Remain in Custody
August 15, 2026; In the continuation of the wave of arbitrary and mass arrests of Kurdish citizens in the city of Bukan in recent days, "Zakaria Basar", a Kurdish citizen from Bukan, was also arrested. He was arrested after his father, "Esmail Basar", had been detained, and security forces declared that his father would not be released until "Zakaria Basar" presented himself to security agencies. Nevertheless, until now, both father and son remain in custody at the Intelligence Office of Bukan.
According to an informed source speaking to Kurdpa; over the past few days, security forces of the Intelligence Office of Bukan arbitrarily arrested "Esmail Basar", a Kurdish citizen from Bukan, stating that "Esmail Basar" would not be released until his son, named "Zakaria Basar", turned himself in to the security agencies of the Intelligence Office of Bukan.
On Saturday morning, August 15, 2026, "Zakaria Basar", a Kurdish youth, was arrested by security forces; nevertheless, until the publication of this report, both father and son remain in custody at the security agencies of the Intelligence Office of Bukan.
Until the time of publication of this news, no information is available regarding the reasons for the arrest and possible charges against these Kurdish citizens, and security forces have offered no explanation in this regard. Furthermore, these Kurdish citizens are deprived of the right to access a lawyer, family visits, and telephone calls.
With the arrest of Esmail Basar and Zakaria Basar, the number of arrests of Kurdish citizens from Bukan over the past three days, since Thursday, August 13, 2026, has reached 7 people. "Omid Chaobaz", "Sedigh Karimi", a former political prisoner, "Hadi Azizi", a civil activist, "Loghman Ghorbani", and "Mohammad Hajizadeh" are among the other detainees in this wave.
