Bojnurd; Shahriar Mohammadi Berimanloo, Kurmanji Kurd Wrestler Detained in January, Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison

August 7, 2026 – "Shahriar Mohammadi Berimanloo," a young Kurmanji Kurd wrestler from the "Berimanloo" tribe in Bojnurd, North Khorasan Province, who was arrested in connection with the January 2026 protests, was recently sentenced by a branch of the Revolutionary Court of Bojnurd to discretionary imprisonment, and this sentence was reduced on appeal to 2 years of discretionary imprisonment.

An informed source, confirming this news, told Kurdpa: "Shahriar Mohammadi Berimanloo," a 20-year-old Kurmanji Kurd youth from Bojnurd, was initially sentenced by Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Bojnurd on charges of "assembly and collusion against national security" and "propaganda against the system" to 4 years and 8 months of discretionary imprisonment; however, this sentence was subsequently modified by the Court of Appeals to 2 years of discretionary imprisonment.

According to this source, he was deprived of the right to access a lawyer in the court of first instance, but filed an appeal through a lawyer. This verdict was communicated to him in July 2026, and he must report to prison in one month to serve his sentence.

On January 9, 2026, "Shahriar Mohammadi Berimanloo" was arrested by security forces without presenting a judicial warrant and transferred to an unknown location. After eight days of arbitrary detention, he was released on bail from Bojnurd Prison. Throughout the entire period of arbitrary detention, this Kurdish citizen was deprived of the right to access a lawyer, family visits, and phone calls.
