Pa Taq Heights; Outbreak of Widespread Wildfire and Environmental Activists' Call for Control

July 29, 2026 – This morning, Wednesday, the heights of "Pa Taq" in Sarpol-e Zahab County of Kermanshah Province caught fire in a widespread manner; a fire that has so far resulted in the burning of a large number of oak trees and other native species, as well as the loss of wildlife, facing the ecosystem of this region with a serious threat.

According to received reports, the density of forest cover, the impassable nature of access routes, and the spread of the fire have faced the efforts of nature lovers and environmental activists to contain the blaze with serious difficulty. Furthermore, as of the time of drafting this report, none of the responsible institutions have been dispatched to the area to contain the fire, and this wildfire has also had no reflection in state media.

Environmental activists have issued a call requesting the presence of volunteer forces to help contain the fire and warned that, given the intensity and extent of the blaze, the fire is advancing toward "Nova Kuh" Mountain, and if this trend continues, more extensive damage will be inflicted on the vegetation cover and ecosystem of the region.

The heights and pass of "Pa Taq" are located in Sarpol-e Zahab County of Kermanshah Province and along the road from the city of Islamabad-e Gharb to the city of Qasr-e Shirin. This region possesses rich forest vegetation and steppe pastures, and its most important plant species consist of oak trees, mountain almonds, and various medicinal and spring plants.
