Kurdistan Region of Iraq; Repeated drone attacks by the Islamic Republic on the "Jizhnikan" camp of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan

This morning, May 15, 2026, in the continuation of the attacks of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the camps of political refugees and families of Kurdish parties, the "Jizhnikan" camp, residence of families of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan located in Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, was targeted by 3 suicide drones. According to reports, these attacks caused no casualties or financial damage.

The media of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan announced in this regard that over the past three days, this is the second time that the "Jizhnikan" camp has been targeted by drone attacks. These media outlets also wrote that since the beginning of the military conflict between Israel, the United States, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the camps and headquarters of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan have been targeted by more than 129 missiles and suicide drones.

According to statistics, from February 28, 2026, to May 15, 2026, more than 824 cases of missile and drone attacks have been recorded by the Islamic Republic of Iran and its affiliated proxy groups against the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. As a result of these attacks, at least 20 people, including 7 Peshmerga of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, one Asayish employee, 9 Peshmerga of Iranian Kurdish parties, 3 civilian citizens, and one French soldier have lost their lives, and at least 125 people have been wounded.

According to these statistics, Erbil with 479 cases, Sulaymaniyah and Halabja with 237 cases, Soran with 68 cases, and Duhok with 29 cases have experienced the highest number of attacks.

In the meantime, the headquarters and political refugee camps of the Kurdish opposition parties opposing the Islamic Republic have been among the main targets of these attacks; especially camps where families, women, and children of the members of these parties reside. Furthermore, service and public centers including hospitals, libraries, schools, and civil institutions active in these camps have also been targeted by missile and drone attacks.
