Iraqi Kurdistan Region; Drone attacks took the lives of a couple; Kurdistan Region with 17 fatalities, the highest casualties in the region
In the early morning of April 7, 2026, as a result of drone attacks on the village of "Zargazuy" in the Arbil province of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, a couple named "Musa Anwar Rasul" and "Mozhdeh" lost their lives, and their two young daughters, 5 and 3 years old, named "Delin" and "Malin," survived this attack.
Iraqi Kurdistan Region authorities, including Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Region, called this attack "terrorist," "war crime," and "hostile" and showed a serious reaction to it. In this regard, they criticized the Islamic Republic and demanded an answer.
Also on the same day, one of the Peshmergas of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region named "Waisi Akhar Said Shirwani," who had previously been wounded on the early morning of Tuesday, March 24, 2026, following missile and drone attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran on the "Peshmerga Forces Unit 7" center in the "Spilik" area located in the "Khalifan" district of the city of "Soran" in the Arbil province, lost his life as a result of his injuries. In these attacks, 6 other Peshmergas also lost their lives on the same day and more than 20 people were injured.
"Rudaw," one of the high-viewership media outlets of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, in a report about the fatalities of missile and drone attacks on this region, announced that since the beginning of the military conflict between Israel-USA and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Iraqi Kurdistan Region has suffered the most casualties after Israel. This is while the Islamic Republic and its close groups propose "the presence of American bases" and "targeted attacks" on these bases as a justification for these attacks; however, so far no American soldier has been killed in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region and instead, civilians, Peshmergas, and employees have been among the fatalities.
This media outlet adds that the Iraqi Kurdistan Region has been targeted by 698 missile and drone attacks so far, and at least 17 people, including 7 Peshmergas of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, one Asayish employee, 6 Peshmergas of Iranian Kurdistan parties, 2 civilians, and one French soldier, have lost their lives and at least 92 people have been injured.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has so far only accepted responsibility for the attack on the "Peshmerga Forces Unit 7" center, which led to the killing of 7 Peshmergas and the wounding of more than 20 people, and announced that this attack was carried out "by mistake"; but it has not accepted responsibility for any of the other 698 attacks.
Meanwhile, the group "Saraya Awliya al-Dam," which introduces itself as part of the "Islamic Resistance in Iraq," has recently announced that during 34 days, it has carried out 181 attacks on American targets in Iraq, the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, and several countries in the region.
Groups such as "Hashd al-Shaabi," "Saraya Awliya al-Dam," "Kata'ib Hezbollah," and "Jaish al-Ghadhab (which has been formed for only 40 days)" are among the groups known as the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, which evidence and documents show are under the material and military support of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
