Miandoab; Shahab Tavan Sentenced to 3 Months and One Day of Executory Imprisonment for "Propaganda Against the State"
October 22, 2025; In the ongoing trend of issuing judicial sentences against Kurdish activists and citizens, Shahab Tavan, a Kurdish citizen from the village of "Ebrahimabad" in the suburbs of Miandoab, was sentenced to 3 months and one day of executory imprisonment by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court Two of this county.
According to an informed source speaking to Kurpa, Branch 101 of the Miandoab Criminal Court Two, presided over by Judge "Valaei," sentenced this citizen on charges of "propaganda against the state." The charges stem from his participation in the funeral ceremony of a mother of several individuals killed by the Islamic Republic and for communicating with a political activist residing abroad.
In the early hours of Sunday, February 23, 2025, Shahab Tavan was arrested by security forces of the Miandoab Intelligence Administration following a raid on his home without the presentation of a judicial warrant. After one month of arbitrary detention and transfer to Urmia Prison, he was temporarily released upon posting bail.
On October 19, 2025, Kurpa reported that six other Kurdish citizens from villages surrounding Miandoab, who had also been arbitrarily detained, were sentenced by the same court to a combined total of 18 months and 6 days of executory imprisonment.
