Miandoab; Group Sentencing of 18 Months and 6 Days of Executory Imprisonment Against Six Kurdish Citizens
October 19, 2025; In the continuation of issuing judicial sentences against Kurdish activists and citizens, in recent days, six Kurdish citizens from the villages surrounding Miandoab—who had previously been arbitrarily detained without judicial warrants by security agencies—were sentenced to a total of 18 months and 6 days of executory imprisonment by the Criminal Court of this city.
According to an informed source speaking to Kurpa; on Thursday, October 16, 2025, Branch 101 of the Criminal Court Two of Miandoab, presided over by Judge "Valaei," sentenced these six citizens to 3 months and one day of executory imprisonment each on charges of "propaganda against the state" through participating in the funeral ceremony of a mother of several individuals killed by the Islamic Republic and communicating with a political activist abroad. The names of these citizens are:
Sedigh Abbasnejad, son of Molla Rahman, from the village of "Ghaleh Hulagu Khan," suburbs of Miandoab.
Behzad Barjasteh, 32, son of Bayazid, from the village of "Ebrahimabad," suburbs of Miandoab.
Keyvan Barjasteh, son of Taghi, from the village of "Ebrahimabad," suburbs of Miandoab.
Nima Ghorbanzadeh, 28, son of Loghman, from the village of "Ebrahimabad," suburbs of Miandoab.
Seyyed Khalegh Rahimi, from the village of "Gavmish Goli," suburbs of Miandoab.
Mobin Majidzadeh, 28, from the village of "Gavmish Goli," suburbs of Miandoab.
Based on the issued verdict, these citizens have the right to appeal the court's ruling within 20 days.
These six Kurdish citizens were previously arrested on February 23, 2025, by the security forces of the Miandoab Intelligence Administration, without the presentation of a judicial warrant and through raids on their homes. After one month of arbitrary detention and transfer to Urmia Prison, they were temporarily released upon posting a bail of 1 billion and 500 million Tomans.
It is worth noting that Nima Ghorbanzadeh, Behzad Barjasteh, and Mobin Majidzadeh are single, while Keyvan Barjasteh, Sedigh Abbasnejad, and Seyyed Khalegh Rahimi are married. Mr. Abbasnejad and Mr. Rahimi each have three children.
It should be mentioned that the villages of "Ebrahimabad," "Ghaleh Hulagu Khan," and "Gavmish Goli" are actually part of the Alashin region of Bukan, and their residents consider themselves part of that area. However, the Islamic Republic, in a targeted political-security division, has placed these villages within the administrative boundaries of Miandoab County.
