Piranshahr: Kurdish Political Prisoner Bapir Barzeh Released from Naghadeh Prison
October 12, 2025; In recent days, Bapir (Ali) Barzeh, a political prisoner from the village of "Chiyaneh" in Piranshahr, was released from Naghadeh Prison upon the completion of his sentence.
On Saturday, January 13, 2024, this political prisoner was transferred to Naghadeh Prison after reporting to Branch 1 of the Criminal Sentence Execution of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office of Piranshahr to begin serving his term.
This Kurdish citizen had been sentenced to three years of discretionary imprisonment by Branch 1 of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge "Amir Ojaqlu," on charges of "acting against national security through membership in one of the Kurdish opposition parties of the Iranian government." This verdict was officially notified to him on Thursday, June 15, 2023.
Additionally, in May 2023, Branch 102 of the Criminal Court Two of Piranshahr, presided over by Judge "Reza Ghahramani Saatlu," sentenced Mr. Barzeh to one year of discretionary imprisonment on charges of "disrupting public order and peace through participation in riots, chaos, and disturbances combined with norm-breaking in line with the goals of groups hostile to the regime against national security."
On Thursday, January 26, 2023, Bapir Barzeh was temporarily released from Naghadeh Prison upon posting bail until the conclusion of his trial proceedings.
This Kurdish citizen was arrested on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at the Pasveh junction by security forces without a judicial warrant and through the use of violence. He was subsequently transferred to a security detention center in Urmia for interrogation.
During his detention, this political prisoner was deprived of access to a lawyer and family visitations.
On Wednesday, September 29, 2021, Bapir Barzeh had previously been granted conditional release from Naghadeh Prison.
