Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh, Kurdish Prisoner of Conscience, Executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj
On the morning of Saturday, October 4, 2025, "Mizan" News Agency, affiliated with the Judiciary, announced the execution of the death sentence of Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh, a Kurdish prisoner of conscience from Sanandaj.
According to an informed source speaking to Kurdpa, this prisoner of conscience had been transferred to a solitary confinement cell in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj on Friday, October 3, 2025, for the implementation of the execution.
On Saturday, December 14, 2024, this prisoner of conscience had also been transferred to a solitary confinement cell in Ghezel Hesar Prison for the execution of his sentence, but was returned to the general ward after the execution was postponed.
Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh was arrested by security forces on November 30, 2013, and was subjected to physical and psychological torture for more than four years in the Sanandaj Intelligence Department detention center and Ward 209 of Evin Prison to obtain forced confessions.
Following the arrest of this prisoner of conscience, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) aired a film featuring the forced confessions of him and several other prisoners of conscience.
This Kurdish prisoner was subsequently sentenced to death by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge "Salavati," on the charge of "Moharebeh through membership in religious groups."
After this prisoner of conscience appealed the verdict of the court of first instance, his case was sent to the Supreme Court for review. Following the overturning of the verdict, the case was referred to a parallel branch. His case was re-examined by the court, and he was again sentenced to death, a verdict that was ultimately confirmed by the Supreme Court.
