Sanandaj: Kurdish Political Prisoner Qane Khatri Released from Sanandaj Prison Upon Completion of Sentence

On Monday, September 29, 2025, Qane Khatri, a Kurdish political prisoner from Sanandaj who was previously sentenced to eight months of discretionary imprisonment on charges of "propaganda against the system," was released from Sanandaj Central Prison upon the completion of his sentence after serving 85 days.

Kurdpa had previously reported that on Monday, July 7, 2025, Qane Khatri, a civil activist from Sanandaj, was transferred to the city's central prison to implement his prison sentence.

On May 25, 2025, this civil activist was sentenced to eight months in prison by the First Branch of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge "Mostafa Azizi," on the charge of "propaganda against the system."

Previously, on February 20, 2025, after 15 days of detention, Mr. Khatri was transferred from the Sanandaj Intelligence Department detention center to the central prison and subsequently released temporarily upon posting a bail of 500 million Tomans. He had been arrested by security forces without a judicial warrant on Thursday, February 6, 2025. Prior to that arrest, on January 17, 2025, he had been summoned to the Sanandaj Intelligence Department and released after several hours of interrogation.

This civil activist and political prisoner has a prior history of arrest and conviction:

May 18, 2021: Qane Khatri, along with four other activists—Morteza Mohammadi, Keyvan Elyasi, Reza Rezaei, and Mohsen Hosseinpanahi—was arrested following a raid on his home by Sanandaj Intelligence Department forces without a judicial warrant.

May 27, 2021: He was released on bail after nine days of arbitrary detention.

November 6, 2021: A court session was held for him and six other members of the "Jiyanaway Kurdistan" (Revival of Kurdistan) campaign. They were tried for "propaganda against the system" and "cooperation with a Kurdish opposition party."

May 19, 2022: The court sentenced Qane Khatri and five others to two years of discretionary imprisonment each.

June 29, 2022: His two-year sentence was reduced to 18 months after he waived his right to appeal (Submission to Verdict).
