Sanandaj: Cleric Barzan Maleki Sentenced to One Year in Prison and Permanent Removal from Religious Office

Mamosta Barzan Maleki, Friday and congregational prayer leader and instructor at the Sheikhin Grand Mosque in Sanandaj, has been sentenced by the Special Clerical Court in Hamedan to one year of discretionary imprisonment and permanent removal from clerical office on charges of “propaganda against the state.”

According to a reliable source, on Saturday, June 27, 2025, the Special Clerical Court of Hamedan informed Mr. Maleki of the verdict via a phone call.

The final hearing in his case was held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the Special Clerical Court in Hamedan.

Previously, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Mr. Maleki had been released from Hamedan Prison on bail set at one billion Iranian tomans.

He was arrested on Monday, May 26, 2025, after appearing before the Special Clerical Court in Hamedan following a judicial summons.

Additionally, on Sunday, May 25, 2025, Mr. Maleki was summoned to the Sanandaj Intelligence Office, where he was interrogated for two hours.

Earlier, on Monday, January 29, 2025, Mr. Maleki and several of his students were detained by security forces near Dehgolan, 20 kilometers from Sanandaj, preventing them from traveling to Zahedan at the official invitation of Makki Mosque.
