Ongoing Detention and Legal Uncertainty for Qader Kheramanfar in Mahabad Prison

Qader Kheramanfar, a 60-year-old Kurdish political prisoner from Mahabad, has remained in pre-trial detention since December 16, 2024, without formal charges or legal proceedings.
According to a reliable source, Mr. Kheramanfar was held for two months at the Urmia Intelligence Detention Center, where he was subjected to severe physical and psychological torture during interrogation. On February 14, 2025, he was transferred to Mahabad Prison upon the conclusion of the interrogation phase.
The source stated that security and judicial authorities have so far refused to grant Mr. Kheramanfar temporary release on bail, and no court sessions have been held to address the allegations against him.
The source added that Mr. Kheramanfar suffers from multiple medical conditions, including coronary artery disease, fatty liver, hypertension, and knee osteoarthritis. Despite his deteriorating health, he has been denied access to specialized medical care outside of the prison.
Following persistent inquiries by Mr. Kheramanfar’s family, he was transferred—in handcuffs and shackles—to a medical facility on Thursday, June 19, 2025. The attending physician described his health condition as critical and called for urgent medical intervention.
Mr. Kheramanfar was arrested in the early hours of December 16, 2024, without the presentation of a judicial warrant, during a raid and search of his residence by security forces.
