Oshnavieh: Continued Detention of Kurdish Writer and Poet Omar Mohammadi, Whereabouts Unknown

On Wednesday, June 19, 2025, Omar Mohammadi, a Kurdish writer, poet, and Kurdish language instructor from Oshnavieh, was arrested by security forces.

According to a reliable source, security personnel raided Mr. Mohammadi’s residence without presenting a judicial warrant and detained him.

The source reported that Mr. Mohammadi has been transferred to one of the security detention centers in Urmia for interrogation.

The source added that no precise information is available regarding the fate of the Kurdish poet following his arrest.

On Monday, May 26, 2025, a special event was held in Oshnavieh to unveil two of Mr. Mohammadi’s works titled "A Chronology of Kurdish Oral Traditions" and "Reading and Writing in the Kurdish Language."

Omar Mohammadi is a member of the Oshnavieh Literary Association and one of the founding members of the “Scientific-Educational Center for Life.” He has been active in literary and cultural endeavors since 2000.
