Number of Detainees in Piranshahr Rises to Four Over Two Days

18:26 - 24 June 2025

Between June 18 and 19, 2025, at least four Kurdish civilians were arbitrarily detained by security forces in Piranshahr, West Azerbaijan province. The individuals have been identified as Ahmad Mam-Sharifi, Sadegh Mahmoudnejad, Seyed Rahman Hosseini, and Arian Mashaikhi—all residents of Piranshahr or nearby villages. The arrests were reportedly carried out without judicial warrants and involved violent raids on the detainees' homes. The detainees have since been transferred to undisclosed locations.

According to an informed source who spoke to Kurdpa, on Thursday, June 18, 2025, security forces detained Arian Mashaikhi, son of Zorar, from the village of Gardrahmat, and Sadegh Mahmoudnejad, son of Taha, from the village of Jerran, both in the Piranshahr region. The following day, Friday, June 19, Seyed Rahman Hosseini (Dalavaran) and Ahmad Mam-Sharifi, son of Omar, originally from the village of Silveh and residing in Piranshahr, were also arrested.

In all four cases, the detentions were carried out without court-issued warrants and were accompanied by the use of force during home raids by security agents.

As of the time of this report, the whereabouts, legal status, and charges against the detainees remain unknown. The lack of information and response from authorities has heightened concern among the families of those arrested.

It is noteworthy that Sadegh Mahmoudnejad is a former victim of eye injury and a former detainee during the "Jin, Jiyan, Azadi" uprising. He was previously subjected to 15 days of arbitrary detention and interrogation by security agencies. Following his temporary release on bail, he faced two separate convictions. The Revolutionary Court of Mahabad sentenced him to five years and six months in prison on charges of "membership in a Kurdish opposition party" and "propaganda against the state." In August 2023, Branch 102 of the Criminal Court in Piranshahr convicted him of "disrupting public order through participation in protests and inciting violence via social media," sentencing him to three months’ imprisonment and 30 lashes. Upon appeal, this sentence was converted to an 8-million-toman fine. On January 2, 2024, he was re-arrested after being summoned to the Enforcement Office of the Piranshahr Court and transferred to Naghadeh Prison to serve his sentence.
