New Case Opened Against Political Prisoner Mohammad Rasoulpour in Oshnavieh Prison

On April 8, 2025, Mohammad Rasoulpour, a Kurdish political prisoner from Oshnavieh, currently serving a one-and-a-half-year prison sentence, was notified of a new case opened against him on charges of “propaganda against the regime.” He is required to appear within five days at Branch One of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Public and Revolutionary Court of Oshnavieh County.
According to a source who spoke with Kurdpa, the summons, dated April 7, 2025, was issued by Mirnaghi Seyedrezaei, the deputy prosecutor of Branch One, and formally delivered to Rasoulpour in prison. The new charge accuses him of “propaganda in favor of anti-regime groups.”
The source adds that the summons was served to Mr. Rasoulpour on April 8, 2025, inside Oshnavieh Prison.
The source further noted that Rasoulpour has repeatedly requested transfer to a semi-open prison, but all such requests have been denied by Oshnavieh’s Intelligence Department.
Background on Mohammad Rasoulpour’s Arrest and Sentencing
• On Saturday, November 16, 2024, Mohammad Rasoulpour was transferred to Oshnavieh Prison to begin serving his sentence of one year and six months, stemming from charges of membership in a Kurdish opposition party and propaganda against the regime.
• He had previously been arrested on the night of Tuesday, July 3, 2024, in his hometown of Kohneh Qaleh, a village in Oshnavieh County, by security forces without a court warrant.
• On July 14, 2024, after 12 days in detention, he was temporarily released on bail of 600 million tomans pending trial.
• In October 2024, the Revolutionary Court of Oshnavieh, presided over by Judge Ali Ansari, sentenced him to two years in prison on charges of membership in a Kurdish opposition party and propaganda against the regime. This sentence was later reduced to one year and six months under Article 442 of Iran’s Criminal Procedure Code.
• Mohammad Rasoulpour, born in 1972, is married and the father of three children.
