Tehran: Rebwar Marabi, Young Kurdish Citizen Arrested During January Protests, Transferred to Greater Tehran Prison to Serve Sentence

July 26, 2026 – On Saturday, July 25, 2026, Rebwar Marabi, a 27-year-old Kurdish youth from Kamyaran residing in Tehran and one of the detainees of the January 2026 protests, was arrested after being summoned to the Sentence Enforcement Bureau and transferred to Greater Tehran Prison to serve his prison sentence.

In recent days, this young Kurdish man had received a court notice to execute his prison sentence.

According to findings by Kurdpa and case documentation, Rebwar Marabi was sentenced in February 2026 to 10 years of discretionary imprisonment at the preliminary stage by Branch 28 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over by Judge Mohammad Reza Amouzadeh, on charges of "assembly and collusion to commit crimes against national security (currency-related)".

Following an appeal, Branch 36 of the Court of Appeals at the Shaheed Soleimani Judicial Complex modified the verdict to 6 years of discretionary imprisonment and 4 years of suspended imprisonment.

Rebwar Marabi was arrested on January 11, 2026, by security forces without a judicial warrant and transferred to Greater Tehran Prison. After more than a month of detention, he was temporarily released on bail from Greater Tehran Prison in March 2026. Throughout his arbitrary detention, he was denied access to legal counsel, family visits, and phone calls.

Rebwar Marabi, a 27-year-old Kurdish youth from Marab village in the suburbs of Kamyaran, Kurdistan Province, resides in Tehran and has worked as a head chef in a restaurant for several years.
