Rasoul Hamzehpour, a resident of the village of Kharapeh in Piranshahr and the imam of the village of Andizeh in the Lajan district of Piranshahr, was sentenced by the Special Clerical Court of Urmia to three years in prison.

The Urmia Special Clerical Court has charged the Kurdish cleric with "propaganda against the regime, propaganda for national and religious issues, and activity in cyberspace."

This sentence was notified to this cleric in March.

On Thursday, October 29th, Rasoul Hamzehpour was released from Urmia Central Prison on 1 billion Toman bail.

This Kurdish cleric was transferred from the Urmia Intelligence Detention Center to the city's central prison on Sunday, October 25th, after completing his interrogation.

On Sunday, October 4, 2020, security forces arrested the Kurdish cleric without issuing any court order in the intersections of Pasveh in Piranshahr and then raided his private home.

During his detention, the cleric made only brief phone calls to his family and was also denied "family visits and access to a lawyer."
