Bukan and Salmas; Mehran Rasouli and Sardar Ranjbar, Two Young Kurdish Workers, Lose Their Lives in Scaffolding Falls
August 2, 2026 – Yesterday, two young Kurdish workers from the cities of Bukan and Salmas lost their lives in separate incidents after falling from scaffolding while working on construction sites. The identities of these two workers have been reported as "Mehran Rasouli" from Bukan and "Sardar Ranjbar" from Salmas.
On Saturday, August 1, 2026, "Mehran Rasouli," son of Maqsoud and Nehayat, a young Kurdish man from Bukan, lost his life at Mahabad Hospital after 40 days of hospitalization due to the severity of injuries sustained from falling from scaffolding while at work. This incident occurred while he was working on a building in Sardasht County.
On the same day, "Sardar Ranjbar," a young worker from the village of "Kelran (Keloran)" in Salmas County, suffered an accident while working on a construction complex in Urmia County when he fell from scaffolding and died due to the impact and severity of his injuries.
According to annual statistics on work-related accidents for the year 1403 (March 2024 – March 2025) released by Iran's Legal Medicine Organization in 1404 (2025), at least 1,986 workers across the country lost their lives due to occupational accidents during the one-year period from late March 2024 to late March 2025. Based on these statistics, falling from heights accounted for approximately 48 percent of all fatalities, serving as the leading cause of worker deaths, with the highest number of casualties recorded in the construction sector.
Experts identify the lack of safety equipment, the use of non-standard scaffolding, insufficient training, and weak oversight of construction sites as the primary factors behind these fatal accidents.
