Bojnurd; Mostafa Alipour, Kurmanji Kurd Detained and Wounded in January, Sentenced to 4 Years, 2 Months in Prison and 74 Lashes

August 1, 2026 – "Mostafa Alipour," a 32-year-old Kurmanji Kurd citizen from Bojnurd who was wounded with more than 100 shotgun pellets during the January 2026 protests and subsequently arrested, was recently sentenced in two separate cases in the Revolutionary Court and the Criminal Court of Bojnurd County to a total of 4 years, 2 months, and one day of discretionary imprisonment and 74 lashes.

An informed source, confirming this news, told Kurdpa: "Mostafa Alipour" was sentenced by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Bojnurd, presided over by Judge "Izanlou," on charges of "propaganda against the system" and "assembly and collusion against national security" to 3 years, 6 months, and one day of discretionary imprisonment. This verdict was verbally communicated to him in July 2026 after being summoned to court. According to this source, the proceedings for this case were conducted in a single online court session lasting approximately 15 minutes while he was in arbitrary detention on March 15, 2026, and deprived of access to a lawyer.

Additionally, Branch 104 of the Criminal Court of Bojnurd sentenced this Kurdish citizen to 8 months of discretionary imprisonment and 74 lashes on charges of "disrupting public order and peace." This verdict was also communicated to him on July 17, 2026.

According to this source, the court deprived Mostafa Alipour of the right to choose a lawyer of his own preference and pressured him to select a lawyer from among the state-approved court-appointed lawyers. For this reason, he preferred for the case proceedings to continue without a lawyer.

One month after being wounded, on February 8, 2026, "Mostafa Alipour" was arrested without a judicial warrant by officers from one of the criminal investigation departments of the police in Bojnurd and transferred to an unknown location. After more than one month of arbitrary detention, he was temporarily released on bail on March 17, 2026.

On January 8, 2026, during the January protests, this Kurdish citizen was shot with pellet weapons by government forces and severely wounded with more than 100 shotgun pellets. Due to fear of arrest, he refrained from going to a hospital, and with the help of a doctor, more than 70 pellets were removed from his body; however, a number of pellets still remain inside his body, causing him pain and physical complications.

Mostafa Alipour, son of Fereydoun, is 32 years old, married, and a father.
