Bojnurd; Mehdi Rostami, Kurmanji Kurd and January detainee, sentenced to 2 years in prison

July 28, 2026; "Mehdi Rostami," a 25-year-old Kurmanji Kurd youth and one of the January detainees, was sentenced by the Revolutionary Court of Bojnurd County on charges of "assembly and collusion against national security" and "propaganda against the system," without having a lawyer, to 2 years of discretionary imprisonment.

An informed source, confirming this news, told Kurdpa: "Mehdi Rostami," a 25-year-old Kurmanji Kurd youth from the city of "Ashkhaneh" in North Khorasan Province and one of the January detainees, was sentenced in late July 2026, without the right to access a lawyer, by Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Bojnurd County on charges of "assembly and collusion against national security" and "propaganda against the system" to 2 years of discretionary imprisonment.

According to this informed source, he did not have the right to appeal the verdict and was told that if he appealed, his sentence would be increased. Furthermore, he was informed that he must report to prison in late August to serve his sentence.

In late January 2026, "Mehdi Rostami" was arrested by security forces during a raid on his home without a judicial warrant and transferred to an unknown location. After a few days of arbitrary detention, he was temporarily released on bail. According to this source, during his detention, he was subjected to physical torture with his hands and feet bound and was forced to sign interrogation sheets while blindfolded.

During the period of detention, this Kurdish youth was deprived of the right to access a lawyer and to have visits and phone calls with his family; furthermore, throughout all stages of the case proceedings, he was deprived of the right to have a lawyer.
