Bukan; Arrest of Hawram Mehrnavayi, a Political Prisoner on Furlough, and Five Days of Disadvantage on His Fate
June 17, 2026; "Hawram Mehrnavayi," a Kurdish political prisoner from the city of Bukan who had been on prison furlough in recent months due to wartime conditions, has been arbitrarily arrested by security forces over the past five days and transferred to an unknown location. To date, there is no information whatsoever regarding his fate and place of detention.
An informed source, while confirming this news to Kurdpa, stated: "Hawram Mehrnavayi," a 24-year-old Kurdish political prisoner from the city of Bukan who was on prison furlough, was arbitrarily arrested on Saturday, June 13, 2026, when security forces raided his family home without presenting a judicial warrant, and he was transferred to an unknown location.
Until the publication of this news, the reasons for the detention of this political prisoner on furlough remain unknown, and security agencies have provided no explanation in this regard. Hawram Mehrnavayi has also been deprived of the right to contact and meet with his family, as well as access to a lawyer, during the past five days.
Hawram Mehrnavayi has a history of two prior arrests during the years 2022 and 2024 and was sentenced to 54 months of imprisonment. This recent detention marks his third arrest;
On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, "Hawram Mehrnavayi" was arrested after being telephonically summoned to the Intelligence Department of the city of Bukan in connection with "holding Newroz ceremonies" and was transferred to an unknown location.
Additionally, on December 2, 2022, this Kurdish youth was arrested by security forces during the "Woman, Life, Freedom" uprising in the city of Bukan, and following the completion of the interrogation phases, he was temporarily released on bail. He was ultimately sentenced in March 2023 to 54 months of discretionary imprisonment by the Revolutionary Court of the city of Bukan on charges of "cooperation with one of the Kurdish opposition parties of the Iranian government."
He was transferred to the prison of Bukan on April 9, 2023, to execute the sentence, and after some time, he was released from prison under the supervision of an electronic ankle bracelet within the limits of the city of Bukan, but was later returned to prison to continue serving his sentence.
On May 12, 2025, Hawram Mehrnavayi went on a hunger strike in the central prison of Bukan to protest the rejection of his request for conditional release after serving one-third of his prison sentence.
