May 29, 2026; On Sunday, May 24, 2026, a Kurdish citizen from Sanandaj named "Farhang Sheikhleh", who had been previously sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic on the charge of "murder", was executed in Sanandaj Central Prison.

An informed source, while confirming this news, told Kurdpa; "Farhang Sheikhleh", who had been sentenced to death in 2022 in connection with the charge of "murder", had his death sentence executed on May 24, 2026, in Sanandaj Central Prison.

Until the moment of compiling this news, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by domestic media inside Iran or official sources.

In the structure of Qisas (retribution) punishment in the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran, all types of intentional murder carry only one punishment, which is "Qisas-e Nafs" (retribution in kind), and factors such as "legitimate defense", "unintentional brawl", the conditions of the crime's occurrence, the motive of the accused, or their psychological and social status do not have much effect on the process of issuing the sentence. Therefore, the lack of differentiation between types of murder, regardless of the severity, weakness, and motive of the accused, which ultimately leads to the issuance of a death sentence, on one hand, and delegating the right to deprive of life to the next of kin on the other hand, is both in conflict with Iran's international obligations under Articles 6 and 14 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, particularly the right to life and a fair trial, and in contradiction with the sovereign duties specified in Articles 156 and 22 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, aimed at preserving the physical security of individuals and achieving public justice.

Since the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by domestic media inside Iran or official sources until the moment of compiling this news, therefore, the secrecy and lack of official announcement of the execution of this sentence not only eliminates the possibility of verifying the fairness of the judicial process but also reveals more than ever the necessity of fundamental legal reforms toward grading the crime of murder and abolishing the current structure of Qisas-e Nafs.
