Naghadeh: Ramin Zeleh and Karim Maroufpoor, Two Kurdish Political Prisoners, Executed
On Thursday morning, May 21, 2026, Mizan News Agency, affiliated with the judiciary, announced the execution of Ramin Zeleh and Karim Maroufpoor, two Kurdish political prisoners from Naghadeh city.
Without specifying the location of the execution, the news agency wrote: "Ramin Zeleh, son of Kamal, and Karim Maroufpoor, son of Kamal, were executed after their cases were processed in judicial authorities and their sentences were confirmed by the Supreme Court, on charges of forming a group with the aim of disrupting national security, armed rebellion through the formation of criminal groups, shooting, and attempting assassination."
According to an informed source speaking to Kurdpa, these two Kurdish political prisoners were executed secretly, without the knowledge of their families or defense lawyers.
The two political prisoners, held in Naghadeh Prison, were tried in a minutes-long court session without the right to access a lawyer of their choice. They were subsequently sentenced to death by Branch One of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge "Siyami," on charges of "Baghi" (armed rebellion) through membership in one of the Kurdish parties. The verdict of the court of first instance was communicated to them in November/December 2025.
During all stages of detention and interrogation, these two political prisoners were deprived of the right to visit and contact their families, as well as the right to access a lawyer.
Ramin Zeleh was arrested on July 22, 2024, by security forces without a judicial warrant during a raid on his family home and was transferred to an unknown location. Following the completion of his interrogation phases, he was transferred to Naghadeh Prison.
Karim Maroufpoor was also arrested by security forces without a judicial warrant and was transferred to Naghadeh Prison after the completion of his interrogation phases.
