Kurdistan Region of Iraq; Drone attacks of the Islamic Republic on the camps of 3 Kurdistan parties Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran/ Komeala Party of Iranian Kurdistan/ Organization of Iranian Kurdistan Khabat

May 21, 2026; in the continuation of the attacks of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Kurdistan parties in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, the camps of political refugees and families of Kurdistan parties; Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran, Komeala Party of Iranian Kurdistan, and Organization of Iranian Kurdistan Khabat were targeted by suicide drone attacks. This is while during 43 days of ceasefire in the military conflict between Israel, the United States, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, military attacks had stopped, but the camps and headquarters of Kurdistan parties were among the few locations that have still been targeted repeatedly.

According to the reports of the media of these Kurdistan parties, on the evening of Wednesday, May 20, 2026, "Jizhnikan" camp affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran in Erbil, "Zargwezala" camp affiliated with the Komeala Party of Iranian Kurdistan in Sulaymaniyah, and "Bashiqa" camp affiliated with the Organization of Iranian Kurdistan Khabat in the north of Mosul, Iraq, which are the residence of political refugees and families of members of these parties, were targeted by the suicide drone attacks of the Islamic Republic of Iran. These attacks were carried out within a short time interval from each other.

Based on published statistics, from February 28, 2026, until May 20, 2026, more than 827 cases of missile and drone attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran and proxy groups affiliated with it against the Kurdistan Region of Iraq have been registered. As a result of these attacks, at least 20 people, including 7 Peshmerga of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, one member of the Asayish forces, 9 Peshmerga of the Kurdistan parties of Iran, 3 civilian citizens, and one French soldier have lost their lives, and at least 125 people have also been wounded.

In the midst of this, the headquarters and camps of political refugees of Kurdish opposition parties opposed to the Islamic Republic have been among the main targets of these attacks; especially the camps in which families, women, and children of the members of these parties reside. Furthermore, service and public centers including hospitals, libraries, schools, and civil institutions active in these camps have also been targeted by missile and drone attacks.
