Father Arrested in Place of Daughter: Seyed Jamal Tahakani Sorkh Remains Detained in Oshnavieh Prison After One Month of Legal Uncertainty

14:48 - 24 April 2025

On April 18, 2025, it was reported that Seyed Jamal Tahakani Sorkh, a resident of Oshnavieh, has been detained without charge in the city’s prison for over a month. He was arrested by security forces 37 days earlier, due to their inability to locate his daughter, Gohar Tahakani Sorkh.

Gohar, reportedly facing fabricated charges following her participation in Newroz celebrations in Kurdistan, was forced to flee Iran amid intense security pressure.

According to a reliable source speaking to Kurdpa, on March 14, 2025, security agents raided the family home using violence and arrested Mr. Tahakani Sorkh in lieu of his daughter. Since then, he has been held in limbo, without any formal charges or trial proceedings.

The source added that during the early days of his detention, Seyed Jamal was severely tortured while held in the custody of Oshnavieh’s Intelligence Department, and due to his deteriorating physical condition, he was transferred to a hospital.

The arrest was reportedly ordered by Saeed Eghbaljou, the public prosecutor of Oshnavieh. Despite the passage of over a month, Mr. Tahakani Sorkh remains imprisoned without clarity about his case.

Reports indicate that Gohar Tahakani Sorkh had been summoned to Branch One of the Oshnavieh Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office on charges of “resisting law enforcement officers” and “disrupting public order and peace.” Unable to arrest her, security agents detained her father instead.
