17:19 - 9 April 2025

Today, Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Majid (Najm al-Din) Daryaei, a former political prisoner from Oshnavieh, was summoned to Branch One of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Oshnavieh. He was questioned regarding the charge of “propaganda in favor of opposition groups,” which stems from his participation in Newroz celebrations.

According to a source speaking to Kurdpa, Mr. Daryaei was temporarily released on bail after being formally charged, pending his court hearings.

On the evening of January 24, 2018, Majid Daryaei was arrested without a judicial warrant after security forces raided his home. The arrest was reportedly related to the political activities of one of his children, Akam Daryaei. He had previously received multiple warnings from security forces regarding potential arrest.

Eventually, on January 29, 2019, Majid Daryaei and five other residents of Oshnavieh were collectively sentenced to 16 years and 6 months in prison. Mr. Daryaei received a two-year sentence for allegedly collaborating with a Kurdish opposition party.

The other individuals and their sentences were as follows:
 • Fattah Alikard, from the village of Narziweh, was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months.
 • Younes Sharifi, from Oshnavieh, to 3 years and 6 months.
 • Hamed Zarifeh, from the village of Khorasht, to 3 years.
 • Mohammad-Amin Fazli, from Bimzarti village, to 2 years.
 • Mohammad Mahmoudtash, also from Khorasht, to 2 years and 6 months.

In a related incident, on June 20, 2021, another son of Majid Daryaei, Najib Daryaei, was arrested at his workplace by security forces without a court order. Two weeks before this arrest, he had also been briefly detained and then released after an interrogation period.
