Serious risk of execution of four Kurdish political prisoners in the coming hours / Contact with families for the last meeting

21:49 - 28 January 2024

The families of four Kurdish political prisoners have been summoned to Evin Prison for a final meeting with their children and are seriously threatened with the execution of these prisoners in the coming hours.

According to an informed source to Kurdpa; The Execution Branch of the Tehran Court and the officials of Evin Prison contacted the families of four political prisoners sentenced to death tonight, January 28, 2024, to visit Evin Prison for the last meeting tomorrow morning.

The informed source of Kurdpa says they have received from informed sources that either the bodies of these prisoners or the death sentences of their children will be shown to the families and the security agencies will not allow the families to have the last meeting. The source of Kurdpa adds that in the case of the execution of Ramin Hossein Panahi, the same thing happened, the family was summoned to Rajai Shahr Prison for the last meeting; But when Aunt Sharifeh went to prison, they showed Ramin's body to her and that was it.

The families of these four prisoners have been summoned to Tehran and Evin Prison at night by the simultaneous announcement of this news by the judicial authorities and prison officials.

The campaign to defend the four Kurdish political prisoners also issued an urgent statement saying; Given the similar examples and previous records of the Islamic Republic, this is a serious risk that the death sentences of these four people will be executed in the coming hours and other mothers will be mourned.

This campaign, referring to the fact that the families of these prisoners are now on their way to Tehran and Evin Prison, has asked the people of Tehran and all freedom-loving people to join them. They also called on human rights organizations and international bodies to take urgent and serious action to prevent these executions.

Masoud Shamsnejad, the lawyer of the four Kurdish political prisoners, announced on his X page; "After registering a request for retrial to the Supreme Court of the country by proxy from the clients Vafa Azarbar, Mohammad Faramarzi, Mohsen Mazloum, and Pejman Fatehi, due to the lack of attachment of the first and final verdicts, the request has not been accepted, generally in security cases The verdicts issued are not delivered to the lawyers. "

The death sentences of Mohsen Mazloum, Mohammad Faramarzi, Vafa Azarbar, and Pejman Fatehi, four Kurdish political prisoners, were issued after more than a year and a half of detention and enforced disappearance in absolute ignorance and the case was referred to the Supreme Court for confirmation of the death sentence. These prisoners have appointed lawyers and so far their families do not know who these lawyers are and have not had any contact with the families. On the other hand, the families have introduced Mr. "Masoud Shamsnejad", a first-class lawyer of the judiciary, as the lawyer of their children to the judicial authorities, but Mr. Shamsnejad has not been able to see the case for a year and a half, and has not received any response from the judicial authorities.

Mohsen Mazloum from Mahabad, Hajir (Mohammad) Faramarzi from Dehgolan of Sanandaj, Vafa Azarbar from Bokan, and Pejman Fatehi from Kamyaran, four members of the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan, were arrested by the security forces of the Islamic Republic in the village of "Yingjeh" from the suburbs of Soma region of Urmia on July 23, 2022. In the past year and a half, the families have had no information about the whereabouts and fate of their children, and these prisoners have been deprived of the right to access a lawyer, and contact and visit their families during this period.

The Islamic Republic twice broadcasted forced confessions from these political prisoners. In this film of forced confession of the Islamic Republic, it is claimed that they "intended to explode in one of the aircraft factories in Isfahan". However, the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan strongly rejected this claim and the accusations of the Islamic Republic against its members and considered it a document for the further suppression of Kurdistan and the struggles of the people, especially in the period of widespread protests in Kurdistan and Iran. Given the scenario of the security agencies and the absolute ignorance of the fate of these four Kurdish political prisoners, the families of these prisoners have repeatedly asked international and human rights organizations to help their children be safe from the issuance of death sentences.

Here is the translation in English:

The Kurdish Human Rights Organization Kurdpa, while strongly condemning the issuance of death sentences against these political prisoners and expressing serious concern about the intensification of the execution of their sentences, emphasizes that the charges brought against these political prisoners without the right to access a fair trial and a designated lawyer conflict with all human rights standards and even the laws of the Islamic Republic itself. It also considers the arbitrary detention of these individuals in the past year and a half as a case of enforced disappearance.

Earlier, Kurdpa had admitted that since there is no information about the fate of these individuals and the families are completely ignorant of the situation of their children, and also considering the statements of the security agencies that even without considering the laws of the Islamic Republic and before the trial, they accused them of cooperating with "Mossad". The Kurdish Human Rights Organization Kurdpa announced that they are in an unknown location without the right to access a lawyer and contact with the family, subject to unfair trial, forced confessions, and enforced disappearance.
