Transfer of Pekhshan Azizi to the women's ward of Evin Prison
In recent days, Pekhshan Azizi, a Kurdish woman activist and former political prisoner from Mahabad, was transferred to the women's ward of Evin Prison after four months of interrogation from ward 209 of Evin Prison.
This social work graduate was arrested in Tehran on August 2023, by security forces and transferred to ward 209 of Evin Prison.
Ms. Azizi has been deprived of access to a lawyer, phone calls, and visits with her family since her arrest.
On November 8, the website "Bitavan" belonging to the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic of Iran reported the arrest of Pekhshan Azizi, Varisheh Moradi, and Sirvan Mohammadrezaei on charges of "membership in one of the Kurdish parties opposed to the Iranian government".
Varisheh Moradi (Jwana Sineh), a Kurdish woman activist, was arrested by security forces near Sanandaj on July 31, 2023, and there is no information available about her fate.
Also, Pekhshan Azizi was arrested by security forces on November 16, 2009, in a protest rally of Kurdish students at Tehran University against political executions in Kurdistan and was released on bail after four months of temporary detention.
This Kurdish woman activist had left Iran for a while and had been living in Iraqi Kurdistan in recent years.
