On November 22, 2022, Shahriar Adeli, 27, from Sardasht, was arrested and transferred to the Sardasht Intelligence Detention Center during widespread popular arrests on charges of participating in protests. He was released on bail on December 3, 2022, but was transferred to the hospital following severe torture and eventually died of severe injuries and stomach bleeding on December 8, 2022.

Security forces, after discovering that Shahriar Adeli had died in the hospital, threatened his family to announce the cause of their son's death as a heart attack and remain silent and refrain from interviewing the media about the death of their son.
On December 9, 2022, the funeral ceremony of Shahriar Adeli was held in Sardasht with the presence of security forces and his family.
