With the Death of another Kolbar, Death and Injury Toll Reaches 23

Kurdpa: A Kurdish courier worker (Kolbar) from the suburbs of Pirsnshar died following two days of hospitalization.

Kurdistan Press Agency, Kurdpa, has learned that on July 15 Siamand Ahmadi, a Kurdish courier worker (Kolbar), died at a Wurme hospital.

According to a source, Ahmadi was shot and injured on July 13 by Iranian Border Guards’ direct shooting in the border areas of Piranshar city, in Eastern Kurdistan. Ahmadi was taken to a hospital in the city and was later transferred to another hospital in Wurme, where he later died due to the severity of his injuries.

Many Kolbars working between the borders of Southern and Eastern Kurdistan carry household appliances, electronics, tires and beauty supplies.

According to eye-witnesses, Ahamdi was not carrying any illegal products.

Sources further revealed that Ahmadi was only carrying electronic supplies at the time of the shooting, and the guards have since confiscated those products.

Also this week, another Kurdish Kolbar from the city of Saqez in Eastern Kurdistan was shot and injured at the border of Shiler, by Iranian Border Guards.

Local news agencies and human rights organizations report that Ahamdi is just one of hundreds of Kolbars injured or killed due to indiscriminate shooting of unqualified border guards.

The lack of employment opportunities, weak economic infrastructure and development has resulted in high poverty rates in the Kurdish region of Iran. To support their families, many are left with no choice but to accept theses dangerous labour conditions.
Kurdpa has thus far documented the deaths of 12 Kolbars and 11 injured since March 21, 2015 – the start of the Iranian New year of 94.
