Urmia: 10-Year and One-Day Sentence of Younes Nabizadeh Upheld by the Supreme Court

July 25, 2026 – The 10-year and one-day prison sentence of a 37-year-old Kurdish citizen named "Younes Nabizadeh," son of Issa and resident of "Dalu" village in the Dizaj Dol region of Urmia, has been fully upheld by the Supreme Court.

According to an informed source who spoke to Kurdpa, this verdict was officially communicated to him in recent days.

Based on a document obtained by Kurdpa, Mr. Nabizadeh was sentenced on December 18, 2024, to 10 years and one day in prison (with credit for time served) by Branch 1 of the Urmia Revolutionary Court—presided over by Judge Najafzadeh and Counselor Esmail Bazrkari—on charges of "membership and cooperation with a Kurdish opposition party aimed at disrupting national security".

Following the issuance of the initial verdict, the political prisoner appealed the ruling, and his file was referred to the Supreme Court for review.

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, Mr. Nabizadeh was arrested by security forces outside his home in Urmia without a warrant and transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence detention facility in the city for interrogation.

After nearly two months of interrogation, he was transferred to Urmia Prison. Following four months of pre-trial detention, he was temporarily released on heavy bail pending final judicial proceedings.

Mr. Nabizadeh is married and the father of two children.
