Kurdistan Press Agency (Kurdpa): The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has started increasing landmines in border regions of Kurdistan.
According to reliable sources, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has recently started laying landmines (No.4) in border regions of Kurdistan from Sawji and Bashmakh in Mariwan (Iranian side) to near Penjwen in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Based on remarks by a landmine expert in Iranian Defense Ministry, the new landmines have been copied from an Israeli landmine (No. 4) and produced by Iranian Defense Industry.
“This kind of landmine does not put the life of mining expert in danger and is to be armed after three hours from being laid”, the expert said.
“Most recently, a few Kurdish Kolbars (porters) have lost their lives or been wounded due to these new landmines in border regions of Mariwan”, he added.
Even though the provinces like West Azarbayejan, Kurdisrtan, Ilam, Kermansha and Khouzestan are the most mine-infested regions in Iran with more than 16 million mine lands, the Iranian government has not yet done anything to tackle this problem.
