Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan; Aboubakr Houshangi Dies from Wounds Sustained in IRGC Missile Attack on Party Headquarters

July 21, 2026 – Aboubakr Houshangi, a Peshmerga fighter with the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan who was severely wounded during the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) missile attack on the party's "Zergwezleh" headquarters in Sulaymaniyah province on July 17, 2026, has succumbed to his injuries. Previously, nine other Peshmerga fighters of the party had lost their lives in the same attack.

The Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan announced in a statement today, July 21, 2026, that Aboubakr Houshangi, a native of Marivan, died from the critical injuries he sustained during Friday's missile strike by the Islamic Republic against Komala's headquarters and camps in Zergwezleh and its surroundings, joining the martyrs of Kurdistan's freedom movement.

On the morning of Friday, July 17, 2026, following a strike involving six missiles launched by the Islamic Republic of Iran at the Komala Party's headquarters in the Zergwezleh area of Sulaymaniyah province, Iraqi Kurdistan, nine Peshmerga fighters were killed and several others were wounded. The Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan confirmed the news in an official statement.

In its statement, the party noted that at 6:00 AM, its headquarters were targeted in a heavy and widespread missile attack by the Islamic Republic of Iran, resulting in the deaths of nine Peshmerga fighters. The Komala Party emphasized that this was not the first attack by the Islamic Republic on its bases, stating that since the outbreak of the war, these headquarters have been repeatedly targeted with hundreds of missiles and drones. While condemning the strikes, the party asserted that its resolve and struggle remain steadfast and that the fallen Peshmerga are the latest martyrs for freedom whose path will be continued.

The names and details of the nine Peshmerga fighters killed in this attack are as follows:

1. Yasin Kianpour, born January 4, 2005, from Shazand; joined the party in June 2026.
2. Zakaria Feqeh-Hassan-Aqa, born March 20, 2004, from Boukan; joined the party in June 2026.
3. Siawan Nikkhah, born October 12, 2009, from Boukan; joined the party in June 2026.
4. Ahmad Mahmoudi, born December 5, 1993, from Baneh; joined the party in June 2026.
5. Farhad Ghamari, born September 21, 1973, from Divandarreh; joined the party in April 2026.
6. Reza Sadeghi, born December 20, 1994, from Boukan; joined the party in May 2026.
7. Kasra Rahmannejad, born January 5, 2010, from Boukan; joined the party in June 2026.
8. Soroush Nasri, born May 27, 2009, from Marivan; joined the party in July 2026.
9. Sina Safari, born March 24, 2008, from Shahabad (Eslamabad-e Gharb); joined the party in July 2026.

According to statistics documented by Kurdpa, from February 28, 2026, to July 21, 2026, more than 900 missile and drone attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran and its affiliated proxy groups have been recorded against the Iraqi Kurdistan region. With the death of Aboubakr Houshangi, the total number of victims from these strikes has reached at least 31 people, including 7 Iraqi Kurdistan Peshmerga fighters, 1 member of the Asayish forces, 20 Peshmerga fighters from Iranian Kurdish parties, 3 civilians, and 1 French soldier. Dozens of others have also been wounded.

Among these targets, the headquarters and political refugee camps of Kurdish opposition parties opposing the Islamic Republic have been primary objectives—particularly camps housing the families, women, and children of party members. Public and service centers, including hospitals, libraries, schools, and active civil society organizations within these camps, have also been hit by these missile and drone strikes.
