Kurdistan Press Agency (Kurdpa): A Kurdish Kolbar (porter), from the city of Mahabad, became a victim of a landmine explosion when his both legs cut off.

According to reports received by our agency, a Kurdish Kolbar, Shahab Akfooda, 27, from Mahabad, lost his both legs in a landmine explosion on Monday, October 22.

Having been afraid of being caught or shot by Iranian military forces, he stepped into a landmine field in a border region called Kani Khoda in the city of Piranshar (Piranshahr), our corresponded reported.

On Tuesday, Shahab whom had the day before been taken to a hospital in Piranshar, was transferred to a hospital in Tabriz as his condition has been reported as critical by doctors.

Kolbari (carrying goods on their backs from the Iraqi Kurdistan to the Iranian Kurdistan) in order to make a living is a dangerous job. The economic crisis in the Kurdish provinces of Iran, especially in the border regions, is one of the main causes of taking up this job by people.

Kurdish Kolbars who have to take up this job to earn a living more often lose their lives due to different reasons such as being shot dead by the Iranian military forces, frostbite or landmine explosion.
