KMMK-G calls on the UN Special Rapporteur to ask Iran to halt the execution of Hedayat Abdollapour

In a statement released on the 10th of October, the Association for Human Rights in Kurdistan of Iran-Geneva (KMMK-G) calls on the Special Rapporteur for Iran, Dr. Javaid Rehman, to make a public statement and ask Iran to halt the imminent execution of Mr. Hedayat Abdollapour.

On Monday, October 8th, Iranian Supreme Court upheld the verdict against Hidayat Abdollapour, a Kurdish political prisoner, from Shno. Had he previously been sentenced to death, Hedayat had lodged an appeal aimed at overturn the verdict.

“According to information that the Association for Human Rights in Kurdistan of Iran-Geneva (KMMK-G) has received from the family and Mr. Hossein Ahmadi Niaz, Hedayat’s lawyer, the Iranian Supreme Court has confirmed the death penalty of Mr. Hedayat Abdollapour, a Kurdish political prisoner,” reads the statement.

Hedayat Abdollapour is a Kurdish citizen from Shno (Oshnavieh) and he was sentenced to the death penalty for second time by Urmia Revolutionary Court on charge of “cooperation with a Kurdish opposition party”.

Mentioning the statistics of rising number of death penalty against Kurdish citizens in Iran, the KMMK-G states: “The Iranian Kurds continue to be the main victim of Iran’s machine of executions and according to our data, 32 Kurdish citizens were executed since the beginning of July 2018.”
