Kurdistan Press Agency (Kurdpa): A Kurdish poet was facing more than 15 security charges all of which had been brought by intelligence organizations in the cities of Malakshahi and Ilam.

According to reports received by Kurdpa, on Wednesday, the 17th of October, the lawyers of Jakan Baran, a Kurdish poet, from Kirmashan (Kermanshah), attended his trial in Kirmashan Court for their final defense.

“As Masoumeh Faili and Habibollah Tourang, the lawyers of Jakan Baran, have previously stated, Jakan was facing more than 15 security charges all of which had been brought by intelligence organizations in the cities of Malakshahi and Ilam. The efforts made by these intelligence organizations to bring provable and plausible documents to the court during the last year were not successful. The only offered documents by them were some copies of Jakan’s poems and articles published in some websites and news channels. With regard to those poems and articles, Jakan as well as his lawyers had denied their responsibility”, a reliable source said.

“Jakan has only taken the responsibility of those poems and articles which had been published in its formal pages. There is a strong probability that one of his poems, published in one of his formal pages, will go against him according to the article 513 of the Islamic Punishments”, the source added.

Hosein Bagheri, who writes under the pseudonym ‘Jakan Baran’, was under arrest of Ilam Intelligence Service on charge of ‘writing slogans and act against national security’ from January 18 until January 27.
