80% of Iranian women are anemic

Kurdpa - Figures published by Tehran University’s medical school show that one in five Iranian women suffer from anemia, a deficiency of iron stemming from malnutrition. A lack of protein, copper and essential vitamins are believed to exacerbate the condition.
The school’s Dr. Mahdis Fakharpour told the IRNA news agency: “Anemia is particularly common among women who lose a lot of blood during childbirth. The condition can then worsen if they are too busy working or caring for their children to pay attention to diet.
“Symptoms are chronic infections resulting from minor cuts and bruises, shortness of breath, headaches and backache, experienced also by women losing blood during their monthly period.”
