520 years imprisonment, conviction of 35 protesters in Urmia

Kurdistan Press Agency (Kurdpa): The 112th branch of the Second Criminal Court in Urmia sentenced 35 Kurdish citizens to more than 520 years imprisonment.
The trial of 64 protesters who had participated in a demonstration to condemn sexual assault happened in a school called Raheh Shoda in Islam Abad, a district of Urmia was held in 112th branch of the Second Criminal Court in Urmia Beheshti Complex on August 20. The allegations were participating in damaging and setting fire on public property, participating in damaging private property, participating in setting fire on private property, participating in public disorder, assaulting officials in their duties, damaging official documents by setting fire on them, disobeying government’s agents in their duties, annoying and physical attack against women and gun threating. The court issued heavy sentences for 35 of the protesters and found 29 of them not guilty.
On October 23, 2017, following spreading a news about a Kurdish female student having been sexually assaulted by a janitor of the female school of Raheh Shohada, Kurdish residents of the Islam Abad district took to the streets, gathered in front of the school in which some of the furious protesters set fire on the school building.
Protesters put fire on Basij Headquater, a paramilitary force of the Islamic Republic near the school which made the Iranian Intelligence Officials angry.

- Reza Mousa Hashtyani, son of Majid, the charges (A, D, E, F, G), 27 years and 8 months imprisonment and to be flogged 74 times
- Afshar Chehrezadeh, son of Abdolkarim, the charges (A, B, D, E, G), 13 and a half years imprisonment and to be flogged 74 times
- Behzad Javid, son of Shamsadin, the charges (A, B, D, E, G), 13 and a half years imprisonment and to be flogged 74 times
- Esfandiar Hatami, son of Khaled, the charges (A, D, E, G), 15 years and 8 months imprisonment and to be flogged 74 times
