Bukan; 35-Year-Old Kurdish Youth Masoud Chamani Sentenced to 2 Years and 7 Months in Prison

July 1, 2026; In recent days, “Masoud Chamani,” a Kurdish citizen from Bukan, was sentenced to 2 years and 7 months of discretionary imprisonment by the Bukan Revolutionary Court. He had been arbitrarily detained in February 2026 and later temporarily released on bail.

An informed source told Kurdpa that Masoud Chamani, a 35-year-old Kurdish man from "Ibrahimabad" village in Bukan, West Azerbaijan Province, was handed the 2-year and 7-month sentence on charges of "propaganda against the state" and "membership in opposition groups."

He was initially arrested on Thursday, February 12, 2026, when security forces raided his home without presenting a judicial warrant. Following a period of detention, he was temporarily released after posting bail. Throughout his time in custody, Chamani was systematically denied access to legal counsel, family visitations, and telephone calls.
