Kermanshah؛ Deprivation of Omid Cheraghi from Medical Treatment Due to Opposition to Parole and 300-Meter Electronic Footwear

14:34 - 13 June 2026

June 13, 2026; "Omid Cheraghi", a political prisoner sentenced to 3 years and 9 months of discretionary imprisonment who was released from prison with an electronic ankle monitor over the past month, despite severe heart problems and the need for medical care, is in poor physical condition and inhumane circumstances resulting from the inability to access treatment due to the 300-meter travel restriction caused by the electronic ankle monitor and the judge's opposition to parole.

An informed source, while confirming this news, told Kurdpa; Omid Cheraghi had been in prison for more than 2 years without even a single day of leave or temporary release after his arrest, and was released from prison with an electronic ankle monitor about a month ago. He suffers from severe heart problems and needs medical care, but because he cannot move more than 300 meters away from his home with the electronic ankle monitor, his physical condition is poor, and he has been placed in inhumane conditions to continue life outside of prison.

The source also said; he has applied for parole, and despite the fact that this is considered his first arrest, the judge of the second branch of the Revolutionary Court of Kermanshah, "Vali Mohammadi", has intentionally and with the aim of exerting additional pressure and inflicting suffering from heart disease without the possibility of medical treatment, opposed his parole.

Omid Cheraghi, who was previously an open member of one of the political parties of Kurdistan and had returned to Iran after receiving a safe conduct letter, was arrested by security forces after his return in March 2024 and transferred to an unknown location. After several months of interrogation in one of the security detention centers in Kermanshah, he was transferred to Dieselabad Central Prison of Kermanshah.

Based on information and one of his court documents made available to Kurdpa; Omid Cheraghi was initially sentenced in early 2024 by one of the branches of the Revolutionary Court of Kermanshah, based on the complaint of the deputy prosecutor of Kermanshah, to 5 years of discretionary imprisonment on charges of "managing a group/association with the aim of disrupting national security", "membership in opposition associations of the country", and "propaganda against the state".

Following an appeal against the verdict, the appeal hearing was held on February 5, 2025, and the second branch of the Revolutionary Court of Kermanshah, headed by Judge "Vali Mohammadi", reduced the sentence to 3 years and 9 months of discretionary imprisonment and made it final. This verdict was served to him in Dieselabad Central Prison of Kermanshah on April 8, 2025.
