Dehloran; Mine explosion claimed the life of Rahim Hamidi, a 13-year-old child
On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, a 13-year-old child named “Rahim Hamidi” lost his life due to a mine explosion in the “Cham Hendi” area of “Dehloran” city.
According to an informed source, this child lost his life at the scene of the accident due to the severity of his injuries, despite the efforts of the rescue team.
For four decades, Iran has been the second most mine-contaminated country in the world. Ahmad Vahidi, the Minister of Defense of the Islamic Republic in 2011, announced that approximately 4,200,000 hectares of land in five provinces—"West Azerbaijan," "Kurdistan," "Kermanshah," "Ilam," and "Khuzestan"—are contaminated with mines.
The contamination of these provinces with about 20 million types of mines and explosive materials occurred during the Iran-Iraq war, as well as through anti-personnel mines planted in the early 1980s along the northwestern border of Iran to counter opponents of the Islamic Republic and Kurds.
According to officials of the Islamic Republic, more than 80% of these contaminated lands have been cleared. However, 80% of the victims of mine and war ammunition explosions have been and remain civilians.
