Bojnord Prison; 51 Days of Detention and Uncertainty for Behzad Izanlou, a 39-Year-Old Kurdish Citizen; Athlete, Construction Worker, Tenant
February 23, 2026; After 51 days since the arbitrary detention of “Behzad Izanlou,” a Kurdish citizen from city of Bojnord in North Khorasan Province, he continues to be held in detention in a state of uncertainty following his transfer from security detention centers to Bojnord Prison, and he is deprived of the right to temporary release.
An informed source, while confirming this news, told Kurdpa: “Behzad Izanlou,” a 39-year-old Kurmanj Kurdish citizen from city of Bojnord, was violently detained on January 4, 2026, at 11:00 PM, following a raid by security forces on his home without a judicial warrant, involving the use of tasers and physical assault. He was then transferred to an unknown location. Following the completion of his interrogation, he reported his transfer to Bojnord Prison and has now been held there for weeks without the setting of bail or access to temporary release.
According to this source, during his detention, he has been deprived of the right to access a lawyer and meetings with his family, having had only limited phone calls with his relatives. Furthermore, no clear response has been provided regarding his case status, the possibility of temporary release, or the setting of bail, and he is being kept in a state of legal uncertainty.
Behzad Izanlou is a construction worker, a tenant, and a father of two children. He is also known as an athlete and a sports enthusiast.
