Urmia Prison; The Death Sentence of Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, One of the Detainees of “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi”, Was Upheld by the Supreme Court

December 20, 2025; Branch 9 of the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, one of the detainees of the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” revolutionary uprising, who is held in the Central Prison of Urmia.

According to an informed source who spoke to Kurdpa, this sentence was notified to this political prisoner in recent days, and he is in a very poor mental state.

This informed source added: This detainee of the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” revolutionary uprising was subjected to severe physical and mental torture in the detention center to extract forced confessions.

The informed source stated: An examination of the CCTV footage showed that Mehrab was not present at the murder scene; the camera footage is in the possession of security forces, and there is no evidence indicating his presence at that time and location.

In the case of this Kurdish youth, the murder of a Basij force member was attributed to him, which ultimately led to the charges of “Efsad-fel-Arz” (Corruption on Earth) and “participation in premeditated murder” and the issuance of a death sentence by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia, presided over by Judge “Najafzadeh.” This sentence was issued after three court sessions on September 19, 2024, and was notified to this citizen one month later, on October 21 of that year, in the Central Prison of Urmia.

The case of this Kurdish political prisoner, after the completion of the interrogation stages, was referred to Branch 7 of the Interrogations Office of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office of Urmia, presided over by “Soltanzadeh,” and after the issuance of the indictment, it was referred to Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia.

Mr. Abdollahzadeh was violently detained by security forces on October 22, 2022, during the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” revolutionary uprising in the “Valiasr” town of Urmia, and after the completion of interrogation stages, he was transferred from one of the security detention centers in Urmia to the Central Prison of this city.

Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, born on March 15, 1998, son of Mohammad-Amin, is from the village of “Khoshalan” in the Somay-e Baradust region of Urmia and was working as a barber.
